Eco Schools

7th Oct 2016

At the beginning of the year we voted in our Eco Council. In our monthly meetings we discussed topics of interest, current affairs and picked two areas to target to obtain our Bronze award. The first was raising awareness of ecological issues. We decided to have a whole-school assembly for Earth Day on the 22nd April.  This prompted P4/5 to write letters to Mr Maginn to request that he consider allowing us to plant a greater variety of plants and/or trees.

Mrs McKeown applied for a free pack of "Grow Wild" seeds for a wild flower garden and we were successful in our application. Between this, and donations of equipment and compost, we were able to plant out our own Wildflower area in Chloe's garden. Unfortunately, we missed out on the full glory of our garden while we were off enjoying our summer holidays, but Mrs McKeown came back for a visit and took a few snaps to show us the fruits of our labours!

We think they're gorgeous, the bees and wasps thought they were gorgeous and we hope you do too!
