We sang a song to Brigid!

2nd Feb 2017

Yesterday, P2/3 and P6/7 worked together to celebrate St. Brigid's feast day with drama, art, poetry and song. The assembly highlighted St. Brigid's kindness, a quality which is at the heart of our ethos here in Killowen: kindness is the means by which we make our motto of "Faith, Friendship and Understanding" felt and seen by all who visit our school and are part of our school family.

The Primary 2/3 pupils welcomed everyone and shared with their schoolmates and parents a very special poem they had learned, "Kindness". They then explained the ways they showed kindness like St. Brigid and shared their artwork with the parents, grandparents, relatives and friends who came to support the children.

The Primary 6/7 pupils then offered a superb dramatization of the story of St. Brigid's cloak. They followed this with a heartfelt, and thoughtful group prayer which contained the following:

Strengthen what is weak within us, help us be the boys and girls who grow into the men and women our world needs,

Help the adults in our lives, as they work to nurture in us, qualities that will see us grow into kind people who mirror and magnify the love and care we have received.

Calm us into a quietness that heals and listens.

Dear God, thank you for the blessings you give us and, through us, offer your support to the people we are thinking about.

Words to remember.

Finally, the assembly concluded with an uplifting performance of 'We sing a song to Brigid'.

The children marked the occasion reverently, joyfully and, most importantly, in a personal way.

The whole school would like to offer them our thanks for their hard work as well as thanking those who were able to attend and support the children by participating in the celebration.
