PIRATES AHOY!
24th Jan 2017
Maths, money and a smiley circle. Does it get any better than this?
We selected our own equipment using materials from around the room.
And we had to be able to explain WHAT we were doing and WHY we were doing it.
We certainly enjoyed earning a few pounds!
And counting our spoils!
We also compared the size and quality of our 'jewels' to make sure they were up to scratch.
Some of us used 2d shape equipment to help us in our task.
We used different methods of sorting to count our money too!
And our equipment was used in clever ways to help us get the job done!
We had to make decisions about what shapes to make, how to make them and which ones were the most value for money!
Aah yes, counting our wages for the day!
And then tidy-up time came...
and we had to bundle our jewels back in the box ...
The money was the last thing to be tidied away...
And then onto some literacy and WAU using our pirate books!
And under the sea non- fiction books!
As well as our word mats to help us!
We've been exploring patterns and textures with 'Under the Sea' themed art!
When we made our jewels we had to exchange them for money at the trading post!
We've also been enjoying some investigations in numeracy!
*also starring Elvis the pirate. These characters mean Trouble with a capital T.
Uh oh! Look out, the Sea witches and the Pirate Queens are working together...
And enjoying the mischief that pirates cause...
We've been playing adventure games in our small world play area!
What do you think?
and the results are looking GRRReat!
We may or may not have started a 'doubloon' production line...
And there have been fishy goings on in the water tray.
We've been listening out for storms at sea ...
And it looks great matey!
We used our investigation skills to puzzle it out!
We've even been building our own pirate ship, - no, we didn't look at the instructions.
Thanks to a kind gift from a parent, we can go to town with our MASSIVE pages!
