Playtime and Activity-based learning in P2/3.

We use props to help us get into character sometimes, especially when we are drawing space battle landscapes!
Sometimes we choose things around the room to help us achieve our goals. Using equipment for a specific purpose is a goal in developing numeracy processes. Cool, huh?
When we use drama and role play, like in our space café, we are trying out special language that we have heard others use. This is one of our literacy goals for the year. We get a chance to try out different roles and different sets of words and terms when we change topic.
At the small world tuff spot we get to show our creativity by building whole worlds! We use mathematical language to describe place and position of objects. We use newly acquired words like rocket, asteroid, astronaut and spaceship when talking out the worlds we create.
We work in pairs and small groups to achieve our goals. This is one of our targets in PDMU, as well as being part of our Thinking Skills and Personal Capabilities curriculum.
The ability to adapt our ideas and be flexible when working with our classmates is an important -and challenging- part of ABL.
Transferring our skills across the curriculum, from a numeracy lesson to a role playing situation is an essential part of our progress.
